“DON’T WORRY; THERE’S NO POINT IN WORRYING”

CLIFFORD AND JAN MCCURLEY

BORN: 1939, BRAIDWOOD

Clifford and Jan live not far from our old family farm that we no longer own, about 30 kilometres out of Braidwood. I used to call it God’s Country. While living out on the farm, I would always see Clifford driving past in his little light blue ute. His was always a familiar face in the area.

Clifford grew up in Braidwood and had even built his own house there, while Jan was originally from Canberra. The two of them were married in St Paul’s Church of England in 1956. I asked the two of them, “What’s the secret to living a full life?” Jan responded, “Give and take. Like, I worry all the time about everything, that’s just the person that I am.” Clifford replied, “There’s no point worrying, so don’t worry.” You can see how this two complement one another.

Clifford and Jan McCurley really are a warm couple, and you can tell they just continue to adore each other. When I asked Jan what she couldn’t live without, she said, “Without him!” and laughed. Jan has such a friendly nature, and Clifford is so relaxed. They’re the type of couple to do anything for you, just salt of the earth.
