Series Two~ THERSA AMELIA HILLIER
THERSA AMELIA HILLIER (NÉE PATTEN)
BORN: 1917, WAGGA WAGGA
When I called on Thersa at her central Wagga home two years ago, she answered my knock with a shout of “Coming!” I could hear the tapping of her walking stick, treading the boards towards me at the front door. With a bit of a sweet tooth, I think I interrupted her enjoying an ice cream break.
Her home is filled with things she loves, including some of the original furnishings of her family home, and her prized doll collection she’d dressed especially for my visit.
Originally from Tallimba in New South Wales’ Central West, Thersa married in 1935 in West Wyalong, wearing the wedding dress she made herself. When we got to talking, Thersa’s mentioned her biggest hate was people who steal. “I don’t steal, especially people’s husbands!” she says, and laughs.
